here-doc cmd-embed got hosed - following should replace garble

  ssh $host <<EOCMD

   echo -n cipeinfo output for ' '
   hostname
   echo
   grep cipe /etc/modules.conf
   service network status
   grep 192.168 /etc/hosts
   ip addr | grep cipcb
   netstat -r
   ps -efw |grep ciped
lsof | grep cipe | egrep -v cipeinfo | grep UDP
   #tail -100 /var/log/messages | grep cipcb
   echo
EOCMD

done

report output in previous msg, not repeating for brevity
sorry for any confusion.

MORE OBSERVATIONS

at boot, hostname is set properly,
1st gxdm session has it correct too.
pings across CIPE tunnels both fail.

[root@harpo root]# cipeping groucho
pinging remotes: 192.168.1.1 192.168.10.1 192.168.100.1
pinging 192.168.1.1 succeeded
pinging 192.168.10.1 failed
pinging 192.168.100.1 failed

[root@harpo root]# hostname
harpo.jimc.earth

this restores CIPE tunnels and hoses hostname

[root@harpo root]# service network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ]
Shutting down interface eth1: [ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]

[root@harpo root]#
[root@harpo root]#
[root@harpo root]# cipeping groucho

pinging 192.168.1.1 succeeded
pinging 192.168.10.1 succeeded
pinging 192.168.100.1 succeeded

[root@harpo root]# hostname
harpo.vnet

Also, happens when
logging out of xdm-session, which then returns to console
and restarts, now hostname is hosed: harpo.vnet.
but CIPE tunnel pings work !
