I don't have the source handy but the message suggests that the read() call
wasn't prepared to handle being interrupted.
User mode programs must be prepared for interrupted system calls. For
example (for read()):
ret = read(fd, buf, sizeof(buf));
} while ((ret == -1) && (errno == EINTR));
