Thank you, I'll look at it.  By default MTU is set to 1500 for the eth0
interface, looks like 1442 for the cipe interface.  Does this sound right?
Should it be higher, or lower?

Check your MTUs... It's possible that you're suffering due to
fragmentation/etc. not working right.
