I now have two machines up both with stock kernel.org 
2.4.24 kernels with the below options turned on.
(One RedHat 9, one Debian Woody)
Are these features the same as the kernel crypto API 
from kerneli.org? Do I need to patch the kernel with
something different or is turning on the below in 
recent kernels like 2.4.24 enough?

I would like to dive into 1.6-pre stuff on these 
platforms ASAP :-)
