Theodore Sturgeon
Some of Your Blood (1961)

Sturgeon is foremost known as a SF author and my copy of Some of Your Blood was erroneously classified as SF by the publisher. In fact it is a psychological horror story disguised as a case study. An army psychiatrist is given care of a soldier suspected to be dangerously insane. Step by step we learn about the soldier's life, leading up to the revelation of the nasty habit he has kept in secret so well. Some of Your Blood is an effective little book, leaving the reader to wonder whether to feel compassion or revulsion for the monster.
